Configure the MCP Server

Axminster includes an MCP server, so AI agents can inspect and change the models you have open, using the same validated commands as the app’s menus. MCP clients connect to Axminster through a small helper program inside the app.

Follow these steps to connect an MCP client to Axminster:

  1. Open Axminster.

  2. Choose Axminster > Copy MCP Helper Path.

  3. In your MCP client’s configuration, add a server whose command is the path you copied. The server takes no arguments.

For example, if Axminster is in your Applications folder, a client that uses the common mcpServers configuration format needs this entry:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "axminster": {
      "command": "/Applications/Axminster.app/Contents/Helpers/axminster-mcp"
    }
  }
}

If Axminster isn’t running when the client connects, the helper opens it. Every MCP tool acts on the models that are open in Axminster.
